A lovely little premium gift pack from world famous blenders Dewar’s.
The set contains three 200ml bottlings of Dewar’s double aged blends: a 12 year old, a 15 year old and an 18 year old. All three bottles are “double aged” as they have all spent six months in an inert marrying cask following their initial aging. This process produces a better integrated final product.
Dewar’s blends are built around a core of high quality malt whisky from Craigellachie, Aberfeldy, Aultmore and Macduff.
The 12 year old is one of the stalwart, benchmark blends of the whisky industry. The bottling delivers flavours of dried fruits, apples, berries, crisp malt, dusty oak, honey, vanilla, butter and cereal sweetness. A great introduction to the range.
The 15 year old expression, also known as “the Monarch”, features spirits drawn from both Bourbon and Sherry casks. The extra age, and the sherried spirit, produces a richer whisky than the 12 year old, with notes of rich sherried fruit and spices, apples, toasted nuts, malt, vanilla, toffee, dark chocolate, pineapple and sweet grain.
Finally, the pick of the bunch, Dewar’s 18. This expression possesses greater depth and complexity compared with its younger brothers, offering up flavours of apples, pears, slightly grassy hay, oat biscuits, a faint hint of smoke, deep oak, sherried fruits, spice, toffee’d malt, grain sweetness, strawberries and pineapple.
The Variety Collection is wonderfully presented in an ornate gift box.
An excellent overview of one of the whisky world’s most historic blenders.
