Doubtless one of the most famous whisky brands on the planet, Chivas Regal can trace its history back to 1801. It is surprising then, that the brand has never released a blended malt until now. Ultis is a blend of entirely malt whiskies, and the whisky is so named as the Chivas Brothers believe it to be the “Ultimate Whisky”. Ultis is centred around the Home of the Chivas Brothers, Strathisla. Accompanying this fine old malt are four others – all from the Speyside region – Allt a’Bhainne, Braevel, Longmorn and Tormore. The five different malts are intended to reflect the five generations of the Chivas family. The whisky is tremendous, with exceptional balance and extraordinary flavour. A testament to the art of blending. The whisky is replete with Speyside-typical notes of honey, soft fruit, vanilla and oak. A beautiful dram.
This selection is a fine choice for personal enjoyment as well as a compliment to mixed company. I would classify this as a one-size-fits-all offering; the Montecristo No.2 of pours. An above average drop to be sure.
