A terrific single vintage Calvados from prestigious and historic producer, Château du Breuil.
This distillery is centred around a 16th century Château, which was once the site of a cheese and chocolate factory. They have bene producing Calvados here since the mid-20th century. The apples for this spirit are grown on the Estate’s 42 hectare hillside orchard, located entirely within the Pays d’Auge region. The apples used to produce this bottling were product of just one harvest: 2001.
With this vintage series, the Château only bottles years that are of significant quality, such as 2002, which they claim has “perfect balance between apple and wood”.
The bottling offers flavours of bright, acidic apple, gentle vanilla, oak, cinnamon, nutmeg, slight anise, and more unusual flavours of citrus rind, milk chocolate, cigar smoke and green grapes. It is this unique profile that marks out this vintage as superior.
A delicious bottling, beautifully presented with traditional cork, string and wax closure.
