A wonderful, well-aged Cognac from Château de Montifaud. One of the lesser known houses of the region, the Montifaud have been producing an excellent quality of spirit since they were established in 1866. A highly traditional producer, they have been owned by the Vallet family for six generations. Their modest vineyard of some 125 hectares is split across the two premier crus of the Cognac region: Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne. The flat land with compact, chalky soil, is ideal for the cultivation of intensely flavoured combination of Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and Colombard varieties of grape, each known for creating excellent spirit. This particular bottling is a blend of 80% Ugni Blanc grape, accompanied by a little Folle Blanche and Colombard for complexity of flavour. This spirit has been distilled in Montifaud’s recently renovated stills, which produce a fresh and fruity spirit distilled at around 70 degrees centigrade. After 10 years of maturation in the chateau’s cellars, the Cognac is bottled onsite at 40% ABV. The Cognac itself has lovely notes of nuts, toffee, fresh peaches, pressed flowers and citrus. A rich and well-crafted spirit, this is another excellent spirit from Montifaud!
