A lovely bottling from one of the oldest distilleries in Speyside, Cardhu.
This dram forms part of the 2020 Special Releases from Diageo, always an eagerly awaited series in the whisky world.
This Cardhu bottling has been aged in a combination of former Bourbon American oak casks, refill casks and new oak barrels for 11 years, with the new oak really adding a different dimension to this whisky.
The result is a crisp, bright dram which offers classic Speyside notes of apples, pears, crunchy malt, grapes, pineapple, peaches and vanilla. Cardhu’s house style is allowed to shine through here, with flavours of cut grass and flowers accompanied by bright oak, coconut, white pepper, honey and some marmalade.
Bottled at a generous 56% ABV, without chill filtration or colouration, this is a filling and warming whisky.
The 2020 series continues the “Rare By Nature” theme introduced in 2019, and aptly, this bottling’s label features pears and flowers – both flavours you’ll find in the dram.
An excellent successor to 2019’s 14 year old offering.
