Here at Fine Drams we’re big fans of both Calvados and Bourbon, so we were delighted to see the two spirits combine in this excellent bottling from Boulard.

This dram takes Boulard’s classic Normandy apple brandy finished in former Bourbon barrels. Calvados is nearly never cask finished – usually aged in refill casks, or new French oak barrels – so this is a seriously exciting bottling.

The final product offers up notes of apples in golden honey, with some pear cider acidity, sweet cornbread, vanilla, white chocolate, almonds, more red apples and the faintest hint of charred oak.

Bottled at 44% for a touch more body and depth, this is a cracking little tipple.
