A superb entry into triple distillation from one of Scotland’s smallest distilleries, Benromach!
The vast majority of Scotch whiskies are double distilled, with the practice of triple distillation more associated with Irish whiskies. Indeed, in Scotland, the Lowland region is best known for triple distillation, and it is very rare to see a triple distilled Speysider!
Nevertheless, that is what we have here with this lovely 2009 vintage single malt. The whisky has been aged in first fill Bourbon barrels, adding notes of cinnamon, oak, vanilla, caramel and nutmeg to the clean, malty, buttery and sweet triple-distilled spirit.
Bottled at a robust 50% ABV and without chill filtration or colouring, this Benromach illustrates the craft production of the distillery.
A fascinating, and rather delicious whisky, that will appeal to fans of Irish spirit!
