A tremendous whisky from BenRiach, this is a real throw back to when Speyside whisky was largely peated, before the industrial revolution. The whisky is matured in smaller casks which mean a greater proportion of wood to spirit, making for a faster maturation and an oakier whisky. This suits peated whisky particularly well, and is a process that some Islay distilleries (notably Laphroaig) have adopted. Here it means that the peat is wonderfully balanced against the intense vanilla and spice of the oak cask. The whisky also offers up BeRiach’s classic barley and pear flavours is abundance, ensuring that Speyside fans will be satisfied by this delicious dram. The flavours are greatly enhanced by the fact that BenRiach Peated Quarter Casks is bottled at 46% ABV, and without chill filtration or colouring.
