A superb addition to Benriach’s range, which was given a revamp in 2020 (along with a bold new redesign!)
This is something of a throwback dram, reflecting the style of Speyside whisky as it was hundreds of years ago, when peat was much more common.
The Smoky Ten is even more interesting given its cask maturation – it has been aged in a combination of Bourbon casks, virgin oak barrels and former Jamaican-rum casks. This aging process offers a beautiful fruity and sweet profile that complements the peatiness of the spirit perfectly.
The final result is a dram that offers notes of sweet, elegant peat smoke, with grilled tropical fruits (pineapple, mango, peaches, banana), apples, pears, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, brown sugar, charred oak, lemon zest and vanilla.
A top notch offering that illustrates how well peat smoke and rum casks can work together. This dram benefits from being bottled at the higher proof of 46% ABV and without chill filtration or colouration.
