A powerful rye whisky from Balcones, the Texan distillers.
Balcones are known for using interesting grains in their spirit, and this rye is made with a combination of crystal, chocolate and roasted rye grains, ensuring a complex and full bodied whisky. Unlike many rye whiskies on the market, this bottling is made with 100% rye, there is no corn in the mashbill. The spirit is distilled in traditional copper pot stills, in small batches. The whisky has been aged for a minimum of 18 months in oak barrels.
The result is a youthful, spritely dram with a powerful rye spice and herbaceous nature. The rye whisky serves up notes of burnt coffee, barrel funk, dark chocolate, caramel, bananas, hazelnuts, creamy vanilla, intense cinnamon, red apples, chilli, pepper, dill and chopped thyme.
Bottled at 50% ABV and without colouration, this whisky is surprisingly intense and full bodied for its age.
A well crafted and delicious whisky that will appeal to fans of interesting American spirit.
