A very interesting release from Amrut, the like of which we’ve never come across before.
This bottling takes whisky that has been aged for three years in ex-Bourbon casks, and matures it for another three years in Oloroso sherry casks, that had themselves also matured wine and orange peels for three years.
The result is an extraordinary dram, bright with flavours of vivid citrus, dried fruits, zesty orange skin, toffee, spice, nuts, sweet wine, red berries, grapes, vanilla, and toffee’d malt.
Naarangi translates as Orange, and it certainly serves up powerful notes of the fruit.
Bottled at an intense 50% ABV, this is a whisky that is as delicious as it is fascinating.
