Another excellent addition to the Writers’ Tears series from Irish distillers Walsh Whiskey.

This combination of single pot still and single malt Irish whiskey was finished in 5 Marsala wine hogshead casks from the Florio winemakers in Sicily.

The result is a pleasingly sweet whiskey, with notes of apple, pear, sweet grapes, apricot, peach, vanilla, nutmeg, bright oak, white wine, toffee, peppery spice, caramelised malt and grassy cereals. The cask finish has lent fruity flavours, whilst retaining the fundamental profile of Irish single pot still whiskey.

Bottled at 45% ABV, which helps to balance the sweetness a little, this is a very well crafted dram.
