There are few things that we like better here at Fine Drams than a good port cask whisky, and this is an excellent example. From the Teerenpeli distillery, which is found in the small Finnish lakeside city of Lahti, this is another excellent world single malt to hit the market. Teerenpeli are dedicated to producing the best single malt they can, using only the finest Finnish spring water and barley, and shipping over a pot still from Scotland to create their marvellous spirit. They are now the biggest producing distillery in Finland, despite only starting to distil in 2002. This whisky has been matured in former Bourbon casks for 3 to 4 years, before being finished for 1 and a half years in an ex-Port cask. This whisky demonstrates the excellent experience in cask management that Teerenpeli gained during their previous existence as an independent bottler. We don’t usually comment on the colour of whiskies at Fine Drams, but we must say that this dram has the most gorgeous deep reddish gold colour. On the nose, this is a wonderfully fruity and sweet whisky, with aromas of roasted sugar, malt, toffee, plums, cherries, boiled sweets, blackcurrants and red wine. The palate is very faithful to the nose, but adds a thick and luxuriant mouthfeel, alongside a little peppery spice and wood char. The finish is long and lingering, with lasting fruit and woodspice flavours. The flavours are given a small bump by the slightly higher proof of 43% ABV. Please note this whisky is presented in a slightly smaller, 50cl bottle.
