Another world whisky to emerge over the last few years, Teerenpeli is based in the small Finnish lakeside city of Lahti. Teerenpeli make a point of using only the best local spring water and barley, to produce a spirit of extraordinary quality. Indeed, such is their dedication to making the best whisky they can, they shopped a copper pot still all the way over from Scotland. Teerenpeli are the largest producing distillery in Finland, quite something considering they’ve only been going since 2002. What’s more, the distillery has excellent experience in sourcing and managing the very best casks around, something that is demonstrated to great effect with this sherry matured whisky, the first the distillery has produced.
On the nose, this is a rich and decadent whisky, with wonderful aromas of old wine, toasted oak, raisins, cherries, plums, prunes, cinnamon and nutmeg, and a slight, elegant peat. The palate is thick and buttery, with the same rich fruity notes of nose, adding a little more peat and a crumbling brown sugar flavour. The finish is long and spicy, with a bright cereal note and chewy fruit cake. These beautiful flavours are given a little boost by being bottled at 43% ABV. Please note this is a slightly smaller, 50cl bottle.
