The second edition in Irish distillery Teeling’s Wonders of Wood series, which showcase the impacts of oak from different parts of the world on their spirit. This time around, Teeling has focused on oak grown in Portugal.

This is a classic single pot still Irish whiskey, made with 50% malted and 50% unmalted barley, before being matured in virgin Portugese oak casks.

The final product is a whiskey that serves up notes of rich oak, vanilla, tannic red wine, orange rind, strawberries, raspberries, plums, baked apples, caramel, tobacco leaf, toasted bread, marmalade, malt, cloves, nutmeg and leather.

Bottled at 50% ABV, this is a warming, satisfying dram.
