A big bottle of this amber rhum agricole from Pere Labat
Pere Labat rum comes from Distillerie Poisson, Marie-Galante's oldest distillery, having been founded in 1860.
Named after Father Labat, a pioneering Dominican missionary, Pere Labat honours his introduction of Charentaise-style distillation from Cognac.
The rum has been partly made using cane grown on-site at the distillery’s estate. Distillerie Poisson is known for its traditional harvesting methods, including hand-cutting and ox-drawn transportation, and long fermentations, creating a more complex flavour.
This rum has been aged for 6 months in oak casks, giving it a light amber colour and gentle influence of sweet woodiness.
Expect notes of fragrant cane, lime, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, toffee, light oak, brown sugar, ripe bananas, green apples and grapes, a slight mineral edge and fresh herbs.
An interesting example of a cask aged rhum agricole, this rum has been bottled at 55% ABV for extra body and power.
