This minimalist styled rum hails from Marie-Galante, one of the smaller islands that forms Guadeloupe. Père Labat is named after Father Jean-Baptiste Labat, a French clergyman who travelled to Guadeloupe and modernised the sugar trade.
A classic rhum Agricole, this bottling is produced using the fermented juice of the sugar cane, as opposed to sugar molasses. The result is a grassier, more fragrant rum.
This bottling has been distilled in the traditional manner, and has not been aged.
Père Labat 59° offers up flavours of pure white sugar cane, with some fresh lime juice, vanilla and honeysuckle notes. Despite the high proof, this is a surprisingly soft rum.
Excellent in cocktails.
