Ezra Brooks was first established in 1957, and enjoyed a period of success and popularity (even featuring in the famed heist film, The Sting) until the 1970s when as tastes began to change, and the brand went under.
Happily, it was revived in 1993 by the Luxco company, who began sourcing whiskey for their bottlings. Apparently this whiskey is made with spirit produced at the Heaven Hill distillery.
Ezra Brooks is produced with a mash bill of 78% Corn, 12% Malted Barley, 10% Rye. The spirit has been aged in heavily charred new oak barrels for 7 years.
The final result is a Bourbon with a classic profile, including notes of sweet buttery oak, flowers, cherries, vanilla, brown sugar, rye spice, cinnamon, pepper, candied apple, a little mango and pineapple.
Bottled at a hefty barrel strength of 58.5% ABV, this whiskey is full bodied and powerful.
Delicious neat, Ezra Brooks 7 also shines in an Old Fashioned.
