Also known as “Old Ezra”, Ezra Brooks 7 Year Old is bottled by Luxco and produced by Heaven Hill distillery.
The brand was first launched as a copy-cat of Jack Daniel’s in the 1950s (which was enjoying enormous success at the time), it became defunct in the 1970s, before Luxco revived it in 1993. Thankfully the whiskey has become well known in its own right.
This Bourbon is made with a mashbill of 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% malted barley. The spirit is matured in casks with a number 3 level char.
7 years is not an inconsiderable age for a Bourbon, and Ezra Brooks demonstrates this, featuring wave after wave of charred oak and bright woodspice flavours. These are accompanied by some caramel, cherry and cinnamon, with touches of almond and hazelnut.
Bottled at the warming proof of 50.5% ABV, this is a good value, intense whiskey that would be perfect for bartenders.
