Another super-peaty dram from Bruichladdich’s Octomore series.
This is the .3 instalment of the 14th Octomore release. Unlike the 14.1 and 14.2 bottlings, which are made with Scottish barley, this dram has been made with single vintage, single estate barley grown on Islay’s Octomore farm, which gives its name to the series as a whole.
Octomore farm is known for producing a richly flavoursome and sweet barley. That character is on show with this dram, which has been matured for 5 years in a combination of first-fill ex-American whiskey casks, and second-fill wine casks, perfect for highlighting the flavours of the cereal.
The barley for this dram was peated to a phenomenal phenol level of 214.2 PPM.
The final product is a dram with notes of sweet oak, floral peat, smoked malt, honey, toffee, vanilla, thick smoke, toasted oak, freshly baked bread, sea spray, biscuits, pears, apples, apricots, milk chocolate and lemon peel.
Bottled at a fearsome 61.4% ABV, this intensely powerful single malt whisky.
