The Netherlands has really begun to assert itself as a whisky producing nation, with a string of excellent releases from Zuidam distillery’s Millstone brand.
This delicious rye whisky is produced in an artisanal fashion, using only grain milled by Dutch Windmills, distilled in small Pot stills and aged in new American oak casks (for 3 years).
The result is a fresh, grassy and spicy rye whisky, packed with flavours of fresh rye bread, anise-seed, mint, cinnamon, citrus rind, black pepper, oak, tropical fruits and vanilla.
A feisty, youthful whisky, this has developed quite an astonishing complexity in its three year maturation. Bottled at 46% ABV and without chill filtration or artificial colouration, this is a natural expression of the rye whisky style.
