Another fascinating rum from the Mhoba distillery in South Africa.

This rum is made with the juice of sugar cane grown on site, and distilled in specially created pot stills, before being aged in French oak barrels, which had previously held Cape red wine, and bottled at cask strength. The spirit is produced in very small batches – as little as 24 bottle at a time.

The end result is a rum that offers notes of aged Agricole and funkier Jamaican rums, with a good dose of French oak spiciness. Expect flavours of green grapes, bananas, pineapple, red wine, subtle oak, some slightly vegetal flavours, fresh cane, lime rind, chocolate oranges and a little briny sea spray.
