A supreme version of this famous Greek Brandy, this is the oldest bottling in the Metaxa range.
Made with local grapes, of the Savatiano, Sultanina and Black Corinth varieties, the brandy is diluted with aged muscat wine, giving the final spirit a distinctive sweetness and complexity.
The brandy is flavoured with a mix of Mediterranean botanicals including rose petals and anise (the exact recipe remains a secret). Metaxa is aged in Limousin oak casks. This bottling is a blend of different Metaxa reserves, with some of the brandy being as mature as 30 years old.
The final result is a deeply complex and dignified spirit, with notes of cedarwood, figs, dried fruits, orange zest, bittersweet coffee, dried flowers, honey, leather, charred oak, a little smoke, anise, cinnamon, and baked pears.
The best Metaxa available, a truly memorable bottling.
Metaxa 7 years old is an excellent brandy
Better than 5 and 12 years.
I have metaxa 21 years old, bought it from Greece 14 years ago the liquor store owner stated that they had only 500 bottles produced that year ? Is it available in the market?
