A wonderful long aged rum produced by Caribbean Spirits in Panama. The quality of Rum Malecon is underpinned by two crucial factors: the incredibly high quality sugar cane they source from Panama, and ancient family recipes and techniques brought over from Cuba. Unlike other rums (who use the solera system), this has been fully aged for 25 years in former Bourbon American oak barrels. This maturation ensures a delightful complexity of flavours and aromas, whilst avoiding the dangers of over-oaked spirit.
On the nose, this rum has beautiful notes of vanilla, toffee, banana, tobacco smoke, old oak, dried apricot and coffee. The palate is thick and chewy, with cigar smoke, charred oak, woodspice (cinnamon and nutmeg), overripe bananas, mangos and sweet pineapples. The finish is lingering and warm, with incredible balance between dry and sweet flavours. Woodspice particularly is present in the finish, with an intense vanilla oak note. A simply incredible long-aged rum, ideal for sipping.
This scrumdiddlyumptious rum gave me a boner. Amazing buy.
