Lemorton 1980 Domfrontais Calvados
70 cl, 40%

1980, a great year for music, and an even better year for Calvados!

This single vintage Calvados is produced by the family run Lemorton distillery.

Lemorton are one of those distilleries that seems to do everything right: they are now in their six and seventh generation of family ownership, their spirit is produced using fruit grown at their own 9 acre orchard, and they create plenty of delicious vintage Calvados bottlings such as this one.

This distillery is found in the Domfrontais appellation, which has the perfect soil (rich in clay and limestone) for the cultivation of pear trees. The appellation’s rules insist at that all cider and Calvados in the region contains a minimum of 30% pears, but Lemorton far exceed this, using 70% pears and 30% apples to produce their spirit.

The fruit for this Calvados is fermented in oak barrels for eleven months, and distilled in Lemorton’s single alembic.

Distilled in 1980, this bottling is the product of one harvest and one distilling season. The Calvados has been aged in French oak cask for a superb complexity of flavour.

Indeed, this bottling delivers flavours of fresh, juicy apples and pears, grassy warm hay, salted caramel, fresh pastry, oak, jammy dried fruits, cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate and cedarwood.

Elegant and sweet, this is a beautiful bottling.
