A delectable cask aged gin from Calvados producer Christian Drouin.
Drouin are a relatively recent addition to the Calvados world, having been founded in 1960. Nevertheless, the Calvados house has swiftly established an excellent reputation for making some of the finest apple brandy on the market.
This gin has been produced using a base spirit made of 30 different cider apple strains. The aromatics used, aside from the essential gin ingredient of juniper, are also inspired by the flavours typically found in Drouin’s Calvados.
As such the company have used cardamom, cinnamon, vanilla, almond, rose, ginger and lemon. The spirit has then been finished in former Calvados casks, giving it a slight amber colour and an extra kick of apply flavour.
The result is a gin that serves up flavours of toasty oak, cinnamon, earthy spice, crunchy green apples, slight white grape, chewy juniper and gentle nuttiness.
Small batch produced, this is a high class gin, good enough to be enjoyed neat or over ice.
