An excellent release from Laphroaig, that has won many fans over the years. This bottling sees their famous Islay spirit placed into quarter casks for maturation. Quarter casks are (as you might suspect) roughly a quarter of the size of an ordinary barrel, originally being used for horseback transportation. These barrels allow for more contact between spirit and wood and therefore a faster maturation. It also produces a uniquely vanilla heavy and woody dram, which balances the medicinal, heavily peated Laphroaig spirit. Furthermore, this expression is bottled at 48% ABV and without chill filtration, allow the whisky’s flavours to ring true. This 1 litre bottling represents great value for money, giving you even more dram for you buck!
