Released in 2016, as part of a three part series that celebrated Laphroaig’s 200th birthday the year before, this is an astonishing, incredibly mature whisky.
The bottling takes Laphroaig’s intensely flavoured Islay spirit, and matures it largely in refill hogsheads. The whisky is then transferred to first-fill former Bourbon barrels and refill quarter casks for the final period of its aging. This finishing process has injected a strong oaky character to the whisky
Laphroaig 30 year old serves up intense flavours of tarry, coastal peat, with a huge hit of lime juice, nectarine, pineapple, peach, oily toasted nuts, ginger, vanilla, bright charred oak, cinnamon, soft chilli, ash, woodsmoke, iodine, old leather, cigar smoke and seaweed.
Bottled at a cask strength of 53.5% ABV, and without chill filtration, this dram offers all the intensity and complexity that comes with three decades of maturation.
The bottling is presented with bronze accents on the label, and a handsome wooden box.
