A fascinating rum from Martinique based distillery La Mauny, this rhum agricole has been finished for a period not in oak casks, but rather in barrels made from Acacia wood.
This is an extremely rare practice that would not be legal in the whisky industry, giving this rum a distinct quality. The white rum has presumably been filtered for colour.
The spirit itself delivers soft, sweet cane juice notes, alongside touches of citrus fruit, flowers, tropical fruits, peppery spice, cinnamon, cedarwood, acacia honey and some lime rind.
A spirit that would genuinely lend something different as a cocktail base, this is a very intriguing rum, that will hopefully lead to the wider use of different wood varieties.
