Another in the series of Viking or Norse related releases from Highland Park.
This whisky is designed to recall and celebrate the Norse heritage of Orkney. Valknut takes its name from the symbol of three interlinked triangles (which is found on the label), an important image for Vikings, associated with Odin, who led the dead to the underworld. Indeed, Valknut literally translates as “knot of those slain in battle”.
This whisky has been made with a larger proportion of local barley compared to most Highland Park releases, and is matured mostly in sherry seasoned oak casks. The result is a smoky, sweet and fruity whisky, with notes of spicy peat smoke, oak, black pepper, dried fruits, sweet sherry, vanilla, aniseed, cloves, almonds, sea spray and toffee.
Valknut is bottled at 46.8% ABV and without artificial colouration.
An intense experience, that recalls the smoke and fire of the Viking Age.
