One of the breakout spirit stars of the new millennium, Hendrick’s has gone from strength to strength since its launch back in 1999. An extremely interesting gin which uses both pot still spirit and spirit from a rare Carter-Head still, both from the Girvan distillery in Scotland (also known for their excellent single grain whiskies). The pot still spirit is heavier, oilier, rich in juniper and closer to a whisky or cognac in mouthfeel, whilst the Carter-Head spirit is sweeter, fragrant and lighter in style. The combination of the two creates an incredibly well balanced spirit. Hendrick’s has gained astonishing popularity over the last few years, and is a mainstay of many bars. Unusually, they use cucumber as one of the main botanicals of their gin, alongside rose petals for a fabulous floral character. As such, the suggested garnish for this gin is a cucumber strip, a distinctive touch that really makes Hendrick’s stand out. This gin makes one of the best G&Ts in the world, and is a must try for all gin fans!
