Another terrific, long aged single vintage Cognac from Grosperrin.
This Cognac was produced by a family of wine makers in the Gémozac region of Charente-Maritime. Despite being a little outside the cru, this family maintain an estate inside Petite Champagne, where the grapes for this spirit were grown. The vines in this estate grown in chalky soils, perfect for producing intense, flavoursome eaux-de-vie.
Guilhem Grosperrin purchased this batch from one of the family’s sons, with the spirit having originally been produced by the father 40 years earlier. The spirit was aged in several 559 litre barrels, which were stored in the dry cellars of the Organisation Economique Cognac (or ORECO) for short, before a period in Grosperrin’s own cellars.
The final result is an intense, flavoursome Cognac that delivers notes of rich fragrant wood (sandalwood and cedar), oak, chocolate, figs, alcoholic honey (mead-like notes), sultanas, leather, funky-earthy spice, lychee, oily walnuts, cloves, candied citrus rind, rancio, cinnamon and plums.
A really unique and delicious profile. The spirit has been bottled at 47.5% ABV and without colouration or boisé.
