Considered by some to be Scotland’s oldest (and smallest) distillery, most of their malt whisky ends up as the backbone in the Famous Grouse blends, but thankfully, they decided to expand their range of offerings in 2015. This single malt, the Glenturret Triple Wood, is one of these new expressions. As you might have guessed from the name, it is comprised of whiskies aged in three different types of casks: European sherry oak, American sherry oak, and ex-bourbon casks. The result is very rich and flavourful, with dried orange, honey, wood spice, and a solid barley backbone.
