Originally released for the Travel Retail market, the Glenmorangie Cadboll is named after a cup (dating back to the 1500s) that the Macleod clan of Cadboll used to drink wine. Glenmorangie is found close to the Cadboll region of the Scottish Highlands.
In keeping with the theme, this whisky has been aged initially in former Bourbon American oak casks, and finished in casks that previously held Muscat and Sémillion wines.
The whisky serves up some biscuity malty flavours, with touches of dried citrus peel, lemon, butter, green apple, honey, grass, dried fruits, boiled sweets, dessert wine and sweet red berries.
Bottled at 43% ABV for a little extra body and intensity, this is a satisfying and enjoyable dram that perfectly showcases the value of a good cask finish.
A tipple fit to grace the Cadboll Cup itself.
