Ferdinand’s Saar Dry Gin takes its name from the Prussian District Forester Ferdinand Geltz, the man who co-founded the VDP Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Zilliken estate, well established as one of Germany’s best vineyards. Indeed, the founders of this distillery all have experience producing some of the most delicious Rieslings in Germany. This spirit is part of a growing trend for gins with very many different diverse botanicals (see also, Monkey 47 and the Botanist). Indeed, no less than 30 botanicals have gone into this complex, multi-layered gin. These include rose hip, sloe, thyme and of course, juniper (mostly sourced around the Saar region of Germany). The gin is then infused with semi-sweet Riesling wine, giving it an extra juicy quality. An extremely flavoursome spirit, with a complex and intense palate, this adds sophistication and variety to any number of gin cocktails.
