A powerfully punchy gin from small batch distillers, Darnley’s, who are operated by the famous Wemyss spirits family.

This bottling is a stronger version of their spicy gin, which is made with botanicals gathered from Morocco, other African nations and China. This bottling also has an increased juniper content, giving it a more powerfully flavoured bittersweet character.

Bottled at Navy Strength, 57.1% ABV, this proof takes its name from the gunpowder strength test that spirits carried by Naval vessels had to pass. As gunpowder and spirits were often stored close to one another, the liquor had to be above a certain proof so that the gunpowder would still function if a spillage occurred. The bottling was also made in homage to Sir Rosslyn Wemyss, who served as an Admiral in the Royal Navy.

This gin serves up bold flavours of citrus fruit, nutmeggy spice, some verdant spruce and pine flavour, cinnamon, pepper, ginger, bright juniper and fruit.

An intensely flavoursome gin that will not get lost in even the most complex of cocktails, this works particularly well with citrusy classics such as the White Lady.
