One of three releases originally meant for travel retail as part of Dalmore’s Fortuna Merita range. Luckily a few bottles have made it on to our shelves! Fortuna Merita translates from latin as “fortune favours the brave”, and certainly, Dalmore have been bold in their choices of casks! Dalmore Regalis is finished in Amoroso, Dalmore Luceo in Apostoles, whilst Dalmore Dominium has been finished in Matusalem sherry casks. Dalmore Dominium is the premium release from this collection, and is named to recall the granting to Clan Mackenzie the domain of Kintail by King Alexander III (after the clan chieftain saved the King from being trampled and killed by a charging stag). Matusalem (the name meaning “as old as Methuselah, the oldest figure to appear in the Bible, who lived for 969 years) is often aged for extraordinarily long times, with 30 years not being unusual. Matusalem is a rich and flavourful Oloroso that has been sweetened with a small amount of Pedro Ximinez. The effect of this cask on Dalmore”s meaty spirit is staggering, lending incredible rich notes of leather, dried fruit, walnuts and crumbling brown sugar. Outstandingly complex, particularly given that it is non age stated.
