A fascinating and delicious Bas-Armagnac from the highly regarded Chateau du Tariquet producer.
Montreur d’Ours, which translates as “bear trainer”, pays homage to the forefathers of the Grass-Artaud family, who have been owners of Domaine Tariquet since 1912. Originally, this family lived in Ercé, a village in the Pyrenées, where they worked as bear tamers.
Unusually, this Armagnac combines the traditional brandy grapes of Ugni Blanc and Baco with the rare Plant de Graisse, an ancient grape variety reintroduced by the Grassa-Artaud family. The spirit combines eaux-de-vie that has aged for between 10 and 20 years.
The result is a richly flavoured Hors d’Age Armagnac, with notes of intensely perfumed flowers, vanilla, dried grapes, toffee, dark oak, apple cider, lemon rind, cedarwood, rancio and strawberries.
Terrific spirit, beautifully presented.
