A briefly aged Tequila from Casamigos, the company founded by Hollywood star George Clooney.
This brand was established after Clooney and his friend Rande Gerber were building holiday homes in Mexico. During this excursion, the pair tried many Tequilas, before deciding to start bottling their own.
After much trial and error with a Jalisco-based distiller, they created a Tequila that met their stipulations: minimal burn, little hangover, accessible and delicious whether drunk neat or over ice. This was initially shared only with family and friends, and Clooney and Gerber ordered 2,000 bottles over two years.
After the distiller requested that they get a business license, the Tequila was made public in 2013, quickly becoming one of the fastest growing Tequilas in the United States.
Casamigos, which translates roughly as “house of friends”, is made with 100% Blue Weber agave, which is roasted for 10 times longer than the industry standard. The fermentation is also twice as long as normal, and matured in repurposed former Bourbon American oak casks for 7 months.
The final result is a well-balanced Tequila, with notes of buttery oak, caramel, vanilla, succulent agave, anise, burnt hay, peppery spice, mint, cut grass and a touch of creamy coffee.
Delicious served neat and sipped like a whisky.
