You may be familiar with Casamigos excellent tequila, and their famous origin story, founded by actor George Clooney.
This is the smoky spin-off, Casamigos take on popular fiery cousin to Tequila, Mezcal, which was launched on April 1st 2018 (though it is no April Fool).
This Mezcal is made with Espadin Agave, distilled in copper stills and produced in the town of Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca. The family behind the spirit are said to have been producing it for five generations. They continue to use old fashioned methods: a horse pulls the stone tahona, which crushes the cooked agave, which then ferments for between two and eight days.
Casamigos Mezcal serves up notes of lemon peel, smoked succulent agave, white sugar, vanilla, grass, coriander, slight herbs and mint, and a touch of iodine.
Not a super smoky Mezcal, this is a well-balanced and approachable offering.
