A fascinating bottling from By The Dutch. “Batavia Arrack” is the name given to Indonesian rum, and this style dates back to the 17th century.
Made with a base of 100% sugarcane molasses, this Indonesian rum from Java island has been producing using wild yeast grown on red rice cakes.
Following pot still distillation, the spirit has been shipped to the Netherlands, where it was blended and bottled.
The final product is a funky, characterful rum that has plenty of “hogo” notes, with flavours of: fragrant sugar cane, tropical fruits (pineapple and papaya), vanilla, bell pepper, fresh flowers and toffee.
Bottled at 48%, this is a full bodied rum that would make for a great replacement for rhum agricole in a Ti’ Punch.
