This striking bottling is one of two whiskies specially created for the travel retail market by Lowland distillery Auchentoshan.
No blood was spilled in the making of this dram, rather the name is a reference to the combination of Bourbon and red wine casks it was matured in. Aside from imparting a rosy hue to the spirit, this cask maturation has produced a complex and deeply flavoured whisky.
Blood Oak serves up notes of juicy red wine with flavours of cherry, raspberry and jammy red grapes, accompanied by peppery spice, cinnamon, cloves, citrus rind, vanilla, Bourbon oak, milk chocolate, floral malt and some drying wine tannins.
The red wine casks have granted the typically light Auchentoshan a little more body, enhanced by the bottling strength of 46% ABV.
