One of the giants of Scotch whisky, Whyte & Mackay first started blending whisky back in 1844.
This blend is made up of 41 different malt and grain whiskies. The bottling now bears the title triple matured, as the malts are individually matured, then married together and aged in sherry casks for a few months, then the grain whiskies are added and the blend matures some more.
Richard Paterson, Master Blender extraordinaire, nicknamed “the nose” for his superior olfactory abilities, oversees the production of this dram.
The spirit itself is creamy and fruity, with some good grainy notes of biscuit and baked bread, a little brown sugar and maple syrup.
Cracking stuff, full of flavour and great value for money.
