Another excellent premium grappa from the Villa de Varda distillery.
This grappa is made with Müller Thurgau pomace. This grape strain is a relatively modern one, first developed in the late 19th century by Hermann Müller from the Swiss Canton of Thurgau. It is a cross of Riesling and Madeleine Royale grapes, that typically produces an off-dry style of white wine.
The pomace has been fermented with specially selected yeasts, then distilled in Villa de Varda’s traditional copper discontinuous stills. The spirit has then been aged in French oak casks with a medium toast for 5 years.
The final result is a deeply flavoured grappa, with notes of toasted nuts, coffee, chocolate, marzipan, grapes, semi-sweet wine, apples, flowers, mixed spice, vanilla, red berries, cherry and toast with honey.
The grappa is bottled in a delightful decanter style bottling, with a wooden presentation box.
