An interesting new release from Irish distillers Tullamore DEW. This whiskey has been aged initially in former Bourbon barrels, before being finished for a period in first fill ex-Caribbean rum casks.
This is a triple distilled blend of pot still, malt and grain whiskies, and forms part of Tullamore’s “Beauty of the Blend” series. Tullamore DEW have carefully picked out Demerara rum casks, as this darker, denser style of rum imparts stronger flavours onto the whiskey.
The result is a richly flavoured whiskey, packed with classic grassy Irish notes, but accompanied by rummier flavours of tropical fruit, dark oak, toasted sugar and molasses.
The spirit is beautifully presented in packaging inspired by old maps and journals.
This whiskey is bottled at 43% ABV, giving the flavours a slight bump.
