Launched in 1997 by Bert Butler “Tito” Beveridge II, this vodka has gone from upstart to cultural icon in a remarkably short time.
Tito Beveridge had previously worked in the gas and oil business having passed degrees in geology and geophysics. He returned to his homestate of Texas, and started making flavoured vodkas for friends. These proved a hit, and he tried selling his vodkas to liquor stores, only to be told that flavoured vodkas… well, weren’t particularly popular, and he should try his hand at a straight, Texas made vodka.
So Tito began to experiment, creating his own pot still out of outdoor fryers and copper pipes. Nevertheless, he soon ran into legislative problems – there had never been a legal distillery in Texas, and permits were impossible to get. Tito fought to get the laws overturned, and eventually, succeeded!
Tito’s is made using American yellow corn, and distilled in small batches in pot stills. In total, the vodka is distilled six times, and filtered for purity. The result is a pure, crisp vodka that serves up subtle notes of corn sweetness, vanilla, spice and pepper.
Now ranked as one of the best vodkas available, Tito’s makes a mean Martini!
