A nice little set of miniatures from the Tomintoul distillery, comprising of their 10 year old, 16 year old, and 21 year old bottlings.
The 10 year old has a medium body, and offers notes of espresso, malt, vanilla, honey, mild spice, gentle oak and fudge.
The 16 year old has been matured in specially selected Bourbon casks, and created under the supervision of Robert Fleming, the fourth generation in a family of distillers. This whisky serves up flavours of grassy malt and hay, green apples, coffee, nuts, butter, vanilla fudge, bright oak, boiled sweets and a little green tobacco.
The 21 year old is the jewel of this selection. First released in 2017, the spirit has been entirely matured in Bourbon casks, which were chosen for their ability to draw out the subtle vanilla richness of the spirit. Indeed, this bottling delivers plenty of rich vanilla notes, with a slight earthiness, and gentle spice. Some flowers, apple, cream, malt, peppery warmth, tropical fruit and fudge are also apparent.
An excellent chance to get to know “The Gentle Dram”.
