A superb, well aged rum from the world famous Four Square distillery in Barbados.
The rum is said to take its name from Bill McCoy, a famous smuggler who brought spirits from the Bahamas to the Eastern Seaboard. Captain McCoy is known for never adulterating or cutting his wares, leading to the phrase “the Real McCoy” being coined as an expression of something’s quality.
Production of the rum is overseen by Foursquare’s legendary Master Distiller, Richard Seale. This particular has been aged for 12 years (a very long time in the heat of the Caribbean) in heavily charred former Bourbon barrels.
The result is an exceptionally complex rum, which offers up notes of cedarwood, cream, vanilla, tobacco, spicy dark chocolate, orange zest, molasses, bright oak, peppery spice and a little wood smoke.
Simply put, this is a beauty. A near-perfect sipping rum.
