Australian whisky enjoys an excellent reputation around the world - with the nation’s large wine industry providing plenty of high quality casks for distillers to sink their teeth into.

The only problem is, Aussie single malt has tended to be a little on the pricey side. Thankfully Melbourne’s Starward Distillery has served up a high quality and affordable dram that continues to serve up all the classic spicy, fruity flavours we associate with whisky from the Land Down Under.

Fortis means ‘bold’ or ‘strong’ in Latin, and is a fitting description for this whisky, which uses local barley and has been matured in 100% American Oak red wine barrels, producing an intensely flavoursome whisky.

Expect notes of jammy berries, particularly strawberries, blackberries and raspberries, figs, blackcurrants, dark chocolate, cinnamon, peanut butter, toasted oak, ginger, vanilla, orange rind, hazelnut and dates.

Bottled at a generous 50% ABV, this is a full bodied, powerful dram.
