A tremendous blended Cognac from Raymond Ragnaud. This fantastic house of Cognac was founded in 1860, and has been family owned ever since. The distillery has an enviable reputation in the world of Cognac, viewed as one of the region’s best producers. This status is well earned with the company demonstrating their commitment to quality by only using grapes grown with in the Grande Champagne region. This premier cru of Cognac is widely seen as producing the highest quality grapes in the whole region.
This cracking bottling is technically an XO, meaning that it is at least 6 years old, but in practice this Extra Vieux is considerably older. This bottle has got to be one of the best value for money XOs on the market today, with the quality for the price simply staggering. On the nose, the Cognac offers aromas of a little tobacco, sweet grape, toffee and earthy minerality. The palate is dense and delicious, with flavours of oak panelling, cherry wood, sweet grape, caramel and tannic red wine. The finish lingers for some time, with toasted oak notes, woodspice and drying fruit. This Cognac is bottled slightly over-proof at 42% ABV, giving the flavours a little boost. As you can see, Raymond Ragnaud do not subscripe to the modern trend of flashy bottles and expensive marketing, they prefer to let their spirit do the talking. A top bottle that Cognac fans will love.
